With the holidays fast approaching, I wanted to take a moment and reflect back on some of the strides Skyjack has made in November. Skyjack is closing in on the completion of its 30 FOR 30 PARTNERS campaign. That is, our commitment to contribute to 30 charitable causes in honor of our 30th anniversary.
Well, of course safety, reliability and not to mention fun! October started off with a great opportunity to meet contractor end users in the UK at the Nationwide Working at Height Best Practice Forum. I was honored to be one of three keynote speakers.
This month, as part of our “Back to the Floor” program, I spent a midnight shift trying to better understand our newly installed paint line in Plant 1, from the process down to the flow of materials.
August was just purring along and then market “corrections” occurred around the globe. As I write this it seems China has experienced the bursting of their stock market bubble, but also seems to have taken some of the initial, proper steps to mitigate their issues, and helped to calm down other global markets.
July seems to have come and gone quickly, with the pace of life at Skyjack continuing to move at record speed. I missed the Linamar charity event on a beautiful course in Guelph because of a weather-delayed aircraft. But first, let’s talk business...
So summer is now officially upon us and with the longer days, seems to come even more buzz at Skyjack around improving sales and continued global interest. But thankfully, I managed to eventually figure out what time zone I was in and get back into the office for a while. Skyjack had a successful exhibition at the M&T Expo in São Paulo, Brazil, though unfortunately, I could not attend and have fun with my great, talented team and many of our friends, customers, competitors and industry faithful.
The past two months have been quite busy for me as I travel around to various tradeshows and conferences around the world. We had some great customer contact, a good variety of orders from around the globe, and an all around good time!
With Q1 over, things at Skyjack are moving along very nicely. It’s a great time to be manufacturing good-quality, reliable products — what with the industry doing so well and Skyjack gaining more new customers every day. March ended with the International Awards for Powered Access (IAPA) in Washington DC. There was much to do — I am very involved with the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) as I serve on the Board and the International Council. I also sat in on the North American Regional Council meeting (NARC) and the Manufacturer’s Technical Council (MTC). Simply put, it was an intense couple of days!
In true New Orleans style, we had a blast at The Rental Show. For those of you who missed it, a group of dancers and a marching band mobbed our stand during our press conference on Feb. 23. The flash mob helped us celebrate 30 years in business and unveil our newest addition — the SJ86 T.
2015 is well underway and this year we are starting Simply Said, a blog where I’ll share my thoughts about many industry topics and in the Skyjack tradition, have some fun as well. Looking at the year ahead, 2015 looks very promising and we share that optimism. In fact, Access International’s 2014 Confidence Survey projects positive business outlook for the industry—much welcome news for manufacturers like Skyjack.
