Skyjack & Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington Shredding Event 2022

POSTED October 03, 2022

October 3, 2022; Linamar Corporation’s (TSX: LNR) For the fourth year in a row, Skyjack is proud to support Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington (CSGW) in support of their Shredding Event on September 24, raising just shy of $3,000.

Every autumn, since 2018, the CSGW partners with Wasteco and Skyjack to provide secure mobile shredding onsite to the local community. Residents are encouraged to bring their sensitive personal documents to be shredded instead of disposing of them in their garbage or weekly recycling bin. The event has been created to encourage the safe, and environmentally responsible, destruction of personal information and therefore keeping it out of the hands of potential identity thieves and to promote and raise awareness of Crime Stoppers and the work they do in the community to keep us safe.

The 2022 event began bright and early at 7:30 am with volunteers and the Wasteco trucks arriving onsite to set up and get ready for the day. The first cars were in line at Skyjack Plant 2, 201 Woodlawn Road West, by 8am and waited patiently for the volunteers to prepare for the event opening just prior to its official 9am start time. Boxes upon boxes of paper were unloaded from vehicles by the CSGW volunteers and dumped into bins, which were then lifted into the Wasteco truck shredder. A total of 150 vehicles had come through by the time the event wrapped up at 1:00 pm.

At just $5/box (or bag), all the funds raised will go directly to the CSGW to combat crime in the region. A total of $2,977 dollars was raised. “The 2022 Guelph Shredding Event was our second-best event, after our remarkable 2020 numbers,” said Sarah Bowers-Peter, program coordinator for Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington. “On behalf of the CSGW Board of Directors, thank you to Skyjack for hosting and sponsoring the event; to Wasteco for offering the service; our outstanding volunteers who literally do the heavy lifting; and to the customers, new and loyal, who came out to support us as well as reduce the chance of being a victim of identity theft.”

“It was a pleasure to sponsor the Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington shredding event for the fourth year,” says Malcolm Early, vice president, marketing for Skyjack. “As a corporation, data security is vital, as is the environmentally sustainable disposal of waste. So, it’s great to act on these two important areas at once. We look forward to continuing our support for this great community driven event!”

If you missed this year’s event, you have plenty of time to get your banker’s boxes full of old utility bills, bank statements and other sensitive personal data ready for next year. Shredding these documents is always the safer solution, rather than including these documents in with your general garbage or paper recycling.

“Fundraising is crucial to CSGW because it is a charitable organization that uses funds raised to pay Tipster rewards and to run the program. We cannot do what we do without the support of community-minded organizations such as Skyjack,” said Bowers-Peter.
