Skyjack’s new SJ85 AJ offers superior platform height, up-and-over clearance

Feb. 26, 2017; Guelph, Ontario – Linamar Corporation’s (TSX-LNR) Skyjack division unveiled its new SJ85 AJ articulating boom at The Rental Show 2017, hosted by the American Rental Association in Orlando, Florida. The boom is the largest of Skyjack’s articulating booms and features all of the same design elements that made the SJ63 AJ a hit.

“We’ve gone one step further with this new articulating boom,” said Corey Connolly, product manager at Skyjack. “Having a large unit with exceptional up-and-over clearance to complement the great working height and horizontal reach will allow operators the ability to complete many tasks across all kinds of applications.”

The new SJ85 AJ features a class-leading working height of 91 ft (27.73 m), horizontal outreach of 56 ft (17.07 m) and a superior up-and-over clearance of 34 ft (10.36 m). Similar to the SJ 63AJ, this type of reach envelope should set the SJ85 AJ apart from similar machines in its class.

Rising Above Its Class

As with Skyjack’s other articulating booms, the SJ85 AJ riser design provides SKYRISER™ capability, the company’s unique riser design that offers true vertical rise without drifting. An open-center knuckle riser design provides SPEEDYREACH™ efficiency, enabling the lowering of the fly boom to ground level for re-stocking without lowering the riser; operators will be able to function between maximum platform height and ground level in 60-70 seconds.

“Operators will definitely notice how much easier it is to get to max height and back down with the SJ85 AJ,” Connolly said. “Skyjack’s riser design is what sets our new boom apart from similar machines in its class. There is no need to worry about performing multiple functions to lift the riser. The SJ85 AJ’s riser performs the same as all other Skyjack articulating booms – it goes straight up and down.”

Combining this outstanding reach envelope with dual platform capacities of 750/500 lbs (340/227 kg) and two/three personal rating will set the SJ85 AJ apart, making it the most efficient machine for operators looking to maximize productivity and jobsite performance.

Another benefit of the SJ85 AJ’s open center knuckle design are its compact stowed dimensions; useful for transportation and reducing tailswing. The SJ85 AJ also features 360-degree continuous turret rotation, and other unique design features found only on Skyjack rough terrain booms; EASYDRIVE™, direction-sensing drive and steer controls regardless of turret position over chassis; and AXLDRIVE™, an axlebased drive system for excellent rough terrain traction.

“We anticipate that the unit will redefine the 80-ft articulating boom class and are confident that it will offer a great return on investment for rental customers,” Connolly said.
