SKYJACK REACHES NEW HEIGHTS WITH ANTICIPATED SCISSOR AT BAUMA 2016

Linamar Corporation’s (TSX-LNR) Skyjack division unveiled its tallest DC electric scissor at Bauma 2016, the world’s largest construction trade fair. The hotly anticipated SJIII 4740, with a working height of 13.8 m (45.3 ft), is the first Skyjack to enter into this machine class.

The new machine was designed in response to an increasing demand for larger electric scissors in industrial operations.

“Due to the growth of industrial and commercial applications, end users need higher scissors to reach certain work areas. Our rental customers have noticed this rise in demand, whereas a few years ago this was a niche market,” said Kristopher Schmidt, Skyjack product manager. “Our customers have been waiting for Skyjack to launch this kind of machine, and with the market growing year on year, it’s arriving at the perfect time.”

The new SJIII 4740 will primarily be used for industrial and commercial applications, so the working height has been set at 13.8 m (45.3 ft) — making it Skyjack’s tallest DC electric scissor lift manufactured to date. Impressively, the new scissor lift will also be drivable at full working height. The SJIII 4740 has an overall capacity of 350 kg (771.61 lb) and is Skyjack’s widest DC electric scissor at 1.19 m (47 in). The steering system in the SJIII 4740 has also been redesigned, offering operators an improved 0.54 m (21 in) turning radius. In addition, the machine is equipped with variable speed front wheel hydraulic drive for 25% gradeability, as well as a 0.9 m (3 ft) roll out extension deck.

Although certain components of the SJIII 4740 have been completely redesigned, it still contains the same commonality of parts features and service-friendly components that span the entire Skyjack range. Just as in every other Skyjack machine, at the heart of the SJIII 4740 lies the proven and simplistic colour-coded and numbered wiring system — known as SKYCODED™. This means less maintenance and lower costs for Skyjack customers.

The SJIII 4740 can also be outfitted with Skyjack’s ACCESSORYZERS™ to improve ROI from light duty pipe rack and board carrier, to name a few. The SJIII 4740 also includes Skyjack’s industry leading, full two-year bumper-to-bumper warranty.

“The new SJIII 4740 stays in line with Skyjack’s easy to use, easy to service, low maintenance designs,” Schmidt said. “Customers have come to expect simply reliable machines from Skyjack and, unlike our competitors, this machine is in line with the rest of our product portfolio — meaning the controls, hydraulics and wiring are the same in every machine.”

The bolted cross braces make the Skyjack SJIII 4740 scissor lift extremely rigid and reliable, even when working at full height. Emergency lowering has been designed to be user friendly with a simple, single location push-and-pull system that’s fast and efficient. Battery life has also been upgraded with a motor controller, ensuring increased controllability and reduced recharging time.

“The battery life when fully charged allows 46 Skyjack cycles, this is a 10% increase over SJIII 4632,” said Schmidt. “Plus, it only takes 16 hours to charge when fully drained.”

Rental customers have been anticipating the launch of a Skyjack scissor lift that can reach the new heights now demanded by end users. Until recently, the market had remained small but over the last 18 months, customers are now seeing a growing need for a 13.8 m (45.3 ft) scissor lift, according to Schmidt.

“Bauma 2016 is the perfect place for Skyjack to launch its SJIII 4740 scissor lift,” he explained. “It gives us the opportunity to sit down with customers and walk them through the new machine — and because they are such a big part of the overall design process, their opinions are really valuable. At Skyjack, our customers are regarded as strategic partners, so it’s important we design a machine that fits their needs.”
